This session will provide a general overview of the concepts of diversity, equity and inclusion as applicable in organizational settings. The session will describe tools and resources used to develop plans spanning the three major landscapes for diversity, inclusion and equity: the workplace, the workforce and the marketplace. This focus is particularly relevant today, and the presentation will touch on the implications of changing demographics, health and financial disparities, and political tensions.

Address key challenges and potential obstacle

Edna Kane-Williams, Senior Vice President, Multicultural Markets and Engagement, AARP

Edna Kane-Williams has over twenty years experience in working senior management positions within both nonprofit and for profit organizations, with an emphasis on strategic planning, targeted marketing, community outreach, media campaigns, partnership development, and program development.

In her current position, Senior Vice President of Multicultural Leadership at AARP, she is responsible for the development and execution of strategy relating to growing the association’s

multicultural audiences, including Hispanic/Latino, African American/Black and Asian American/Pacific Islander, American Indian/Alaskan Native, and LGBT audiences.

She previously served as Vice President of Strategy and Communications for the AARP Foundation.

Ms. Kane Williams has held a variety of other key positions, including asSenior Vice President of Communications and Social Marketing at IQ Solutions Inc., and as Senior Vice President at Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide.

Edna graduated from Yale University with a B.A. and received an M.A. from George Washington University. She is the recipient of a Coro Foundation Fellowship, and was also a Diversity Executive Leadership Program fellow for the American Society of Association Executives.

She currently serves on the Board of directors for Legal Counsel for the Elderly and Center for Responsible Lending.

LaShanda Jackson, Vice President of Development, Common Cause

LaShanda Jackson is the Vice President of Development. Before joining Common Cause in February 2017, LaShanda worked for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund as the manager of gift accounting, where she oversaw financial management of an $80 million capital campaign. Prior to that, LaShanda cultivated and provided stewardship for members and major donors as the Membership and Major Gifts Coordinator at the Public Justice Foundation. She began her nonprofit career with the Library of Congress, primarily raising capital campaign funds for the Capital Visitors Center and sponsorship funding for the National Book Festival.

LaShanda holds a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies from the University of Maryland.
